For regular consumers, the iPhone 18 Pro seems more like an upgraded version than a fresh redesign. It is, unsurprisingly, aluminium unibody with 8.75mm depth and a weight of 211-grams; more lightweight than many regular-range phones, and slightly bulkier than its predecessor. It's a practical change with the smaller Dynamic Island which allows up to three Live Activities at a time, but the rest of the front and rear design shows no change. Black, silver, glacier and burgundy are more subdued selections than a radical new look.

A 6.3-inch OLED delivers crispness and good responsiveness at 460ppi, while adaptive 120Hz refresh ensures smooth scrolling and games. Apple says the outdoor peak brightness is 3,000 nits, and the rich contrast and broad color gamut supports HDR content. Independent testing measured the brightness at HDR levels of approximately 2,314 nits, which is helpful in the bright light of the outdoors but not the sustained full screen brightness. The small screen is more manageable than the Pro Max's 6.9-inch screen but has limited space available for timelines, editing tools and split-view content.
A20 Pro is the most consequential performance upgrade. Apple claims up to 40 percent better GPU performance than A19 Pro, and the larger vapor chamber is designed to reduce thermal throttling during long gaming or rendering sessions. Testing review showed very good benchmark results and improved heat management. However, the benefits won't be apparent to everyone in the way they use their phones everyday, and are most striking for people who love making videos and games, or gamers who want to play for several years. Some features depend on the language and region, as well as the app, and may not be available or be of benefit on every version of iOS 27 that will be available.
To be honest, the biggest advantage of the model is the variable aperture of the main camera. With apertures of f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8, and f/4, the lens offers freedom of balance for low-light shooting, as well as depth of field. Narrower apertures allow more light to pass through the lens while limiting the depth of field. Bigger numbers let more of the scene in focus, allowing for a natural background blur. The 48MP ultra-wide and 48MP 4x telephoto continue to offer a broad spectrum of flexibility, but the telephoto camera development is not as significant as the one the previous Pro made. The 18MP Center Stage camera ensures everyone is in the frame when calling. Pro controls are for flexibility, but newbie users might choose automatic settings.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199—$100 more than last year. The price jumps all the way to $2,399 for the full 2TB model. It’s definitely a premium, camera-focused phone, but whether it’s worth it really depends on how much you care about new controls, faster performance, and better battery life. If you already have the iPhone 17 Pro, you might not feel the need to upgrade unless features like the new aperture control or battery improvements are exactly what you’ve been waiting for. All things considered, this is an excellent compact flagship, but it’s really aimed at folks looking for something specific or those ready for a major update.
