Moto G Power 5G (2024)

Review

Moto G Power 5G comes with a big 6.7-inch Full HD LCD display, boasting a refresh rate of 120Hz, which means scrolling is silky smooth and general consumption of the screen is nice. It’s bright enough to use outdoors, though sometimes it goes up to 500 nits, which is quite bright for this money. The change to this display from older ones has been welcome, though, since gaming and media consumption is much better compared to previous phones.

The other very noticeable upgrade in Moto G Power 5G is the introduction of the chip: the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset. General usage, like switching between apps and some light multitasking, is very fluid. Some users report minor stuttering when jumping through a lot of apps, but it is common for mid-range handsets, so nothing that ruins this fine experience. As for the phone’s memory, there is 8GB RAM, which is pretty sufficient for the average user, and if that is not enough, virtual expansion through its internal storage is available.

Battery life has always been one of the strong suits of Moto G series phones. That 5,000 mAh battery still dishes out great longevity, sometimes even two-day longevity with moderate use. More intense streaming and gaming tests see users reporting around eight hours of heavy use before needing to top up. The addition of 30W TurboPower charging means that users can top up quickly without having to wait around.

As for cameras, Moto G Power 5G camera setup features a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide/macro lens, and a 16MP front camera—all of which do sound rather promising on paper. Real-world performance tends to be a bit more spotty, though. The main camera takes passable photos when the light is near-perfect but starts to show noticeable noise when it isn’t. The ultra-wide-angle lens adds some welcome flexibility, though this is softer than the main sensor.

All these caveats notwithstanding, this camera system should be good enough for casual shooting and social media use. Users requiring better photography will have to look elsewhere, even if it’s just in somewhat higher price brackets.

For $299, Moto G Power 5G pulls quite a healthy mix of price and performance. Inside, there is 128GB of internal storage, but since microSD expansion up to 1TB is supported, that is expandable—a definite plus for those who need the extra storage space for apps and media. On the back of these prices, it is set very aggressively up against other models that include the Samsung Galaxy A25 5G and the OnePlus Nord N30 5G.

While Moto G Power 5G is good in many ways, some glaring flaws remain. A minus point is the lack of a waterproof rating. While Moto G Power 5G does not have an official rating, some of its rivals tout protection against both water and dust. That may raise several red flags among people who are accident-prone or use their phone in various environments. In addition, some users reported issues with the fingerprint sensor. Sometimes, this might prove inconsistent and non-responsive. This may add up to several frustrating moments while using it daily in everyday quick-access scenarios.

In short, Moto G Power 5G (2024) is no slouch in the budget class either. Great battery life, decent performance metrics, and sleek looks to boot-this thing checks many if not most of the right boxes for value seekers who won’t compromise on key features. There are also things that could be improved CAMERA PERFORMANCE and the longevity of its software are probably the two primary things. Overall, the package still stays quite attractive at this price.
