Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip FE (Fan Edition) lands as a purposeful new addition to the brand's foldable arsenal, offering head-turning design with wallet-friendly pricing. Designed as a cut-price alternative to its snazzy Z Flip series, this device retains the distinctive flip design and offers some clever concessions aimed at pleasing the more budget-minded consumer. Read on as we go through its main specs, performance and how it compares to the competitive foldable market.
The Galaxy Z Flip FE shares the pocketable design of its siblings and becomes a square that fits in the palm when it is folded. Its Armor Aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus back provide durability, and the IPX8 water resistance stands up to accidental spills. Backed over generations, the hinge allows for multi-angle suspension so you can playback hands-free video calls or creativity photos.
Opening the product exposes a main 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The panel adds up to vibrant colors and deep blacks despite the slightly thicker Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) material, so we get an almost imperceptible crease in the middle of the MIX FOLD's screen - a crease like all other foldable screens out there share. The cover screen is a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED, which is smaller than that of the Z Flip 7 but still large enough so you can take a quick glance at notifications, music controls and do basic app use.
And here's where things start to come off the rails a bit under the hood. Those capabilities are enabled by a first-gen Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and an 8GB of RAM under the hood. It's not the newest chip, but this setup will fly through your day-to-day — browsing, streaming and light multitasking are all breeze. But they could top out and stutter during gameplay in a graphically intensive game or while flipping back and forth among too many apps. Storage comes in 128GB or 256GB flavors, so be sure to decide how much you need from the get go — there is no expandable slot here.
