Review

LG Velvet 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, which has become synonymous with mid-range smartphones that require robust performance without breaking the bank. Compared to its predecessor models like LG G8 and V60, which came with more powerful same models like the Snapdragon 865, LG Velvet 5G offers balanced performance suitable for most users. It is not as much about raw power compared with flagships, but it would really perform very well in everyday work, browsing, streaming of media, and light gaming.

In benchmark tests, LG Velvet 5G managed respectable scores but lagged behind flagships with more powerful processors. For instance, it reached around 19 fps in GFXBench’s Car Chase Offscreen benchmark and 86 fps in the T-Rex Offscreen benchmark—figures that are a good fit for casual gaming, though not competitive enough in graphics-intensive applications. Still, users have reported smooth operation during regular usage scenarios like social media browsing and video playback.

Indeed, one could argue that the design of LG Velvet 5G is one of the devices strongest points. It has thin profile with glass back and while not being nearly as fancy as many of the more pricey devices it certainly looks the part. This device is slim and lightweight, measuring 167.2 x 74.1 x 7.9 mm in dimensions and weighing roughly 180 grams which will perfectly fit in the palm of the hand and can be easily used with one hand.

The P-OLED screen is another highlight, 6.8 inches with a high pixel density of around 395 ppi; it’s excellent in saturated colors and deep blacks, which is great for multimedia consumption. Note, though, that refresh is capped at 60Hz, a standard rate nowadays that will feel slow next to newer competitors offering something more. Despite this deficiency, the display quality hasn’t been an issue while playing games or watching videos according to users’ feedback.

With its robust 4,300 mAh battery — 4,000 mAh in some versions — LG Velvet 5G is truly capable of offering highly commendable battery life, easily capable of lasting for a whole day with a single charge while doing average usage. Even in the cases of testing on video playing at maximum brightness, results of around upwards of around ten continuous hours were experienced by the reviewer before actually needing to charge. This device is cable-charged at 25W and wirelessly offers wireless charging capability for added convenience on-the-go.

The camera system on LG Velvet 5G is balanced between the needs of professional photography and user-friendliness. The main camera features a 48 MP sensor, which should deliver detailed shots in most lighting conditions. Reviews note, however, that image quality can be inconsistent, with daylight shots coming out very vibrant and sharp, while low-light shots can occasionally be oversaturated or washed out.

The ultra-wide lens gives users a chance to create more with the camera because it can take wider shots without losing so much detail. Additionally, the depth sensor mounted on the back enhances portrait mode photography by better separating subjects from the background. The 16 MP selfie shooter does well in good conditions but may disappoint the selfie lovers in low-light conditions.

In the end, LG Velvet 5G may not be perfect, but it seems to be a pretty nice package for those who would like some style and don’t want to break their wallet. Elegant design paired with solid performance makes it look very good for consumers, looking to make their mark without having to overspend on premium devices.
