Review

Huawei Pura 70 Pro is fueled by the Kirin 9010 chipset, a 7nm chip from SMIC. Although not the latest chip available, this one is tuned to deliver a seamless experience through Huawei’s software optimization. Normal day-to-day operations such as opening apps, navigating, and multimedia use are well managed. Under heavy loads such as long gaming sessions or serious photography, however, the phone may struggle with delays in processing images and heat generation. In comparison to those running Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or similar processors, Huawei Pura 70 Pro may lack in pure computing power but is quite capable of taking care of most users.

The major selling point is the 6.8-inch LTPO OLED panel. It’s got a dynamic 1Hz-120Hz refresh rate, once again conserving power while remaining silky smooth with speedy interactions. A peak screen brightness of 2500 nits means outstanding outside legibility, besting most competition in direct sunlight. A slightly curved edge to the display gives a luxury look and feel without compromising usability, eliminating accidental touches seen on steeper degree curved screens. Color accuracy and vividness are top-notch, with a billion or so different colors supported and a wide color gamut, so Huawei Pura 70 Pro is a great device for both consuming and creating media.

Huawei’s photographic prowess is showcased to the hilt in Huawei Pura 70 Pro. A 50MP main camera with variable aperture and OIS captures well-resolved, detailed snaps in a range of lighting from bright daylight to dim environments. A 12.5MP ultra-wide lens offers creative liberty in landscape and group shots, while a 48MP macro telephoto lens is best suited to breathtaking close-ups with even focus and stabilization qualities. A 13MP ultra-wide selfie and video calling camera at the front is perfect for selfies and video calls with decent detail and colour fidelity. Processing, despite being slightly slow due to the processor constraint, still produces high quality snaps, holding well against competing flagship models.

The phone comes with a 5050mAh battery and is capable of 100W fast charging. The union of this charging speed with this amount of capacity makes the phone long-lasting, with the ability to breeze through a day’s heavy to medium usage and a fast recharge time keeping downtime at bay. Customer reviews validate that the phone’s battery lasts beyond a day, with a long usage time before a constant recharging would be needed. Fast charging will be beneficial to those on the go who need the power boosted in a hurry.

This version boasts an IP68 water and dust rating, with improved water tolerance at 2 meters rather than 1.5 in Huawei Pura 70. It is equipped with Basalt-tempered Kunlun glass, lending it greater protection against scratches and falls. It is 220 grams and 8.4 mm in thickness, providing a hard but secure hold. It is otherwise equipped with dual speakers of good quality and dual satellite communication support, a handy and innovative feature in the context of a rural area network.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro, wonderful in so many ways, also comes with some serious downsides that consumers should know. Huawei’s Kirin 9010 chipset, while tuned to deliver silky-smooth everyday use, lags behind the latest generation of Snapdragon or MediaTek flagships in raw power and efficiency. This means slow picture processing during heavy camera use and less responsive heavy multitasking or gaming loads. It is also a tad heavier and a bit thicker compared to some competition, something that may effect comfort during prolonged use.
