Galaxy Z TriFold

Review

The handset is the first device to operate as a pocket phone and open up into an impressive ten-inch tablet. In this mode it can even take on those full-sized tablets like iPad Air in just quality transference of content viewing space. The device's greatest distinction comes in its 4:3 aspect ratio main display. That means there's about 50 percent more usable screen area than the traditional folding ones even I had to carry around, making it possible to at last have a truly pocketable large-screen productivity device. And without sacrificing viewing experience.

When it comes to content viewing, dual-screen foldables can't quite match the Z TriFold’s credentials. Widescreen videos, in particular, have almost the entire 10-inch canvas at their mercy (a problem which plagues conventional folding phones that look square). This expanded screen space makes everything fun – reading PDF documents held up tall like books, exploring articles online with desktop-class web browsers turned into something natural and immersive rather than a troubled compromise.

Furthermore, its multitasking capabilities are impressive. With three apps directly side-by-side, Z TriFold is effectively three large-phone screens in one device. You can look up information on one panel, compare prices in another, and draft responses in the third; without constantly switching between apps as on a conventional smartphone. And the resulting gain in productivity is further multiplied by drag-and-drop capability between windows.

The device's structure has thus far shown that it was engineered with a great deal of skill. The double hinge system works seamlessly and stably, with the screen able to remain open at almost any angle without wobble. Amongst its three part panels, the folded device is only 12.9mm thick—not much thicker than Z Fold 7—while its unfolded profile is an extremely sleek 3.9mm at most narrowing point. A G-shaped folding design ensures protection for the vulnerable inner screen when it's not in use, which is considerate and takes durability into consideration over the long term.

Samsung DeX integration elevates the Z TriFold beyond the typical capabilities of a smartphone. The first Galaxy device to be able to run DeX natively, without any requirement for an external display, means that users can access desktop-class interface directly on their 10-inch screen. This experience supports multiple virtual desktops, each capable of running five applications at once, with window management that closely mirrors traditional desktop operating systems. When paired with a keyboard and mouse, Z TriFold can become a true mobile workstation that fits in your pocket.

The device's software smarts also enhance user experience. If users try to fold the device in the wrong sequence, it provides haptic feedback and on-screen alerts-a thoughtful protective measure that prevents accidental damage. AI features like “Circle to Search” with equation-solving capabilities and AI-powered meeting transcription add further practical value for those users who are focused on productivity. With IP48 dust and water resistance as well as titanium hinge covers, and ceramic fiber back panel reinforcements, the Z TriFold is engineered to endure everyday use in spite of its complex mechanical design.
