Sony Xperia 1 IV is a pocket-sized tool that takes the best of Sony’s Alpha camera, Bravia display and Walkman audio know-how, and brings them together in its 2022 flagship. 6.5" 4K HDR OLED refreshes at 120 Hz and reproduces 100 % DCI-P3 cinema-grade color accuracy. Powering these is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage, expandable by up to 1 TB using microSD. A 5000 mAh battery powers the phone for two days and it can be recharged to 50 % in 30 minutes over 30 W USB-PD. Savior-faire audio pretty much checking all the boxes there’s nothing extra we could ask for, in-ear speakers have the permission to come with an in-display fingerprint reader. A case with 2x stereos speakers adjusted by Dolby Atmos make the parts, both sides of the only 3.5mm jack a top of the line manages to keep, with Hi-Res LDAC closing the audiophile’s list. The glass-and-metal chassis with IP65/68 rating weighs of 185 g and will be available in Black, White or Purple. The Xperia 1 IV’s real strength is in its camera setup. Sony’s included it with a world-first 85–125mm optical zoom lens for lossless zooming at these focal lengths—huge for both portraiture and wildlife shooting. Between the wide, ultra-wide and telephoto rear cameras, all three of them support recording 4K HDR 120fps video, something few flagships have and with real-time eye tracking and object tracking for ultra sharp focus. For vloggers and filmmakers, it offers similar professional controls, along with live streaming and multi-camera switching via the Videography Pro app. It's not all perfect, though: DXOMARK warns of the occasional artifact, including aliasing in videos, while the inconsistent performance of the fingerprint scanner can be an irritant when you just want to snap a photo.
