OnePlus Open

Review

OnePlus Open is packed with all the high-end specs that would probably make it one of the best foldable smartphones in the market. It boasts the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, improved much in speed and efficiency over its predecessor. With some new models probably having already moved to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Open’s performance is good enough to run heavy tasks easily.

OnePlus Open does great in benchmark tests. In gamers’ and multitasking users’ scenarios, its extensive RAM does an outstanding job. This is great, since users can use any number of applications running without facing lag or other signs of slowing down. One could use this gadget when either working or hanging around.

Special mention has to go to the design of OnePlus Open. It does strike a great balance between functionality and style. The hinge mechanism has been engineered for durability while allowing smooth opening and closing actions. Unlike some competitors that show more pronounced creases in their displays, OnePlus Open minimizes this issue pretty effectively; when fully opened, the crease becomes almost invisible under normal viewing conditions.

But first, the displays themselves are nothing short of spectacular: with the inner screen peaking at an astonishing 2,800 nits for a foldable-one of the brightest foldable screens available-this phone boasts great visibility even under direct sunlight, which most phones have issues with.

Another area in which OnePlus Open shines brightly is in its battery performance. It has a dual-cell battery, totaling 4,805 mAh, that easily supports all-day usage without needing too many recharges. Real-world testing saw users report over eight hours of screen-on time under moderate usage conditions, which is impressive for any smartphone but more so for a foldable device.

For charging, the phone supports OnePlus’s SuperVOOC technology at 67W, which is actually pretty quick to fill it up when needed. The model doesn’t offer wireless charging, though-what a shame for such a consumer who values this sort of convenience feature above all else.

Photography enthusiasts will love the advanced camera system integrated into OnePlus Open. The back of the device houses a triple-camera configuration: This also combines a main 48MP sensor along with Hasselblad technology for superior color accuracy, a second 64MP telephoto lens good for up to 3x optical zoom, and a third 48MP ultra wide lens for capturing large landscapes or entire groups at once.

And neither is the front camera shabby: The dual setup includes a 20MP camera within the inner display as well as a broader 32MP camera outside, ideal for selfies and video calls with no compromise. Overall image quality is great in bright light, though. However, some users claim that low-light performance was still wanting because of the blurry digital zoom.

OnePlus has promised to support this device with four years of OS upgrades and five years of security updates, a policy that goes well with consumer expectations in today’s fast-evolving tech landscape.

Overall, OnePlus Open stands out as an outstanding foldable smartphone, masterfully combining bleeding-edge technology with elegant design principles. Its impressive performance metrics will make it fit both for casual users and power users alike. While there are minor areas for improvement, particularly in low-light photography, the overall package does present strong value in an increasingly crowded market segment.
