Review

MediaTek Helio G99 chipset sits at the heart of Note 21 Pro performance. This G99 is basically a step up from predecessors such as Meizu Note 20 series, which comes fitted with the older Helio G85 or G90T chipsets by MediaTek. The advanced architecture does well to provide increased efficiency and speed for this G99. It sported an octa-core CPU configuration, with two performance-oriented Cortex-A76 cores-possibly clocked up to 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. The result is smoother execution with resource-hungry applications, including gaming and video editing.

In benchmark tests like AnTuTu, Note 21 Pro does great in its class, ensuring it is capable of handling resource-intensive applications without lagging behind competitors like Xiaomi Redmi Note series or Realme devices.

One of the biggest selling points of Meizu Note 21 Pro is its screen quality. Moving from standard refresh rates to a fluid 120Hz makes quite a bit of difference in user experience while scrolling and gaming. In terms of color reproduction and viewing angles, the IPS panel does a good job compared to using older LCD technologies in its predecessors. While rivals can offer OLED displays for deeper blacks and better contrast ratios, Note 21 Pro makes up for all that with its brightness level and color accuracy.

Modern smartphone users above all value its battery life. In the case of Note 21 Pro, its capacity is 5000 mAh, which is relatively small when taking into consideration that some competitors have batteries well over 5000 mAh; however, this one excels in efficiency due to the software optimization in Flyme OS. For users, it will provide all-day use under normal conditions, going up to approximately 30 hours of talk time on one charge.

Also, 30W fast charging is included, so even if you do run low on battery during heavy use, you can quickly recharge in an hour or so, which is an essential feature for busy users.

The camera system is notably improved from its predecessors. The 64MP sensor of the main camera captures sharp images with excellent details, and enhanced low-light capabilities are courtesy of better software algorithms that make night mode photography a thing. The secondary 2MP depth sensor plays its role to achieve bokeh effects for portrait shots.

While this is comparable with similar devices, like the Samsung Galaxy A series or Oppo A series, which mostly sport cameras with similar looks but are not always optimized with their image-processing software, what Meizu does assures users of great photos straight from the camera app.

While the dimensions read 168.5 x 76.6 x 8.35 mm, Meizu Note 21 Pro strikes a balance between being compact yet spacious enough for comfortable usage. The design reflects modern aesthetics with minimal bezels and a sleek profile available in attractive color options.

Build quality is premium for a mid-range device, but some elements are missing to make it truly great, like water resistance ratings or more robust materials, such as Gorilla Glass protection on both sides.

Of course, there are a few areas where Meizu Note 21 Pro could do better. For one, unlike many of its competitors in this price bracket, it does not offer wireless charging. Flyme OS does have some nice customization options, but long-term software support will likely be nowhere near as good as that from Samsung or Google. While the camera is capable enough for most scenarios, it lacks advanced features such as optical zoom or ultrawide lenses that would make it more versatile.
