Review

Putting iPhone 16 Pro against its predecessor immediately reveals several improvements. Unlike the A17 Pro, the A18 Pro chip snaps for sustained performance, which is about 20 percent better at consuming and allocating resources in resource hungry apps like gaming or video editing. Of course, real world results vary, but in tests using high graphics titles like “Genshin Impact” iPhone 16 Pro achieved a best in class 59.4 frames per second shown with very little thermal throttling, which is a real tour de force of thermal management that really illustrates how far the thermal management system has come.

For heat management, the new aluminum metal heat dissipation structure brings down operating temperatures during longer use. Testing showed that half an hour after playing games, surface temperatures were significantly lower than those found on iPhone 15 Pro — about 10°C on the front and 12°C on the back — so users can play quite a while without overheating discomfort.

Battery life has also been improved by a considerable margin: users reported up to ten extra hours of video playing on iPhone 16 Pro compared to the previous generation. The new charging strategy makes the charger go faster in the initial periods but eventually switches to a more balanced charging mode after it has filled the battery to about 80%. In this way, while the beginning stages of charging are great and often reach 50% in less than half an hour, the final stages are longer than before.

Another area where huge improvements have been made is in the camera system. A dedicated Camera Control button brings quick access to camera functions and an enhanced user experience while taking pictures or recording video. New at a higher resolution, the Ultra-Wide camera captures more details and thanks to more sophisticated sensor technology. Now, the telephoto lens goes further for more flexibility when shooting distant photos.

It also supports new features, such as the ability to record spatial audio, possibly with studio-quality microphones embedded, for far greater audio fidelity before a video is recorded. Other new photographic styles let users make color tone and highlight adjustments in real-time, without applying the same filter uniformly to images.

Prices for iPhone 16 Pro start at a base price of $999, for the model with 128GB of storage, and top out at $1,499, for more expansive models that now offer up to 1TB of storage. While Apple clearly positions it firmly in the most exclusive smartphone category, many users find the feature set justifies the price.

Generally, despite minor drawbacks — such as incremental upgrades for those with recent models or some features still in the refining stage, like Apple’s AI capabilities — iPhone 16 Pro is outstanding not only in terms of looks but also in performance improvements in every aspect: from processor and battery to camera and overall user experience. For anyone who desires a top-notch smartphone experience full of the latest technologies, iPhone 16 Pro is definitely a great option that may be well worth considering.
