Review

Snapdragon 8 Elite powers Xiaomi 15 and it improves on the capabilities of the processor in Xiaomi 14. Due to its 3nm process, the chip delivers greater speed, uses less energy and releases less heat. It makes it easy to game, edit videos and multitask in real-life since it runs smoothly with top frame rates and brings down temperatures more effectively. The availability of LPDDR5X RAM and storage of UFS 4.0 also assists in its responsiveness as well as in speeding up app launch.

Xiaomi 15 is as thin as the predecessor, measuring over 152 mm in height and 181 grams in weight, which is unusual in flagships of this spec level. The 6.36-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen with 120 Hz is giving you crisp, smooth viewing joy. The 3200 nits of peak brightness is incredible, giving excellent daylight readability and a definite edge over most of the competition. The phone’s premium feel and sturdiness are matched by the frame, which used aviation-grade aluminum.

While the camera hardware on Xiaomi 15 is very similar to Xiaomi 14, the telephoto has been greatly improved. The switch to the Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor with 2.6x optical zoom provides better, more crisp zoomed photos, a welcome camera bonus. The main 50 MP sensor is still a beast, producing excellent image quality with excellent OIS and laser autofocus. The front and wide-angle cameras are still high-quality and high-resolution. Xiaomi 15 includes Master Cinema Mode for video recording, which captures moody, cinematic video superior to Xiaomi 14 video. Xiaomi Imaging Engine maintains even color and exposure between sensors, which helps improve the quality of video and photos.

Xiaomi 15 has a huge 5240 mAh battery in relation to the phone’s size. It should quite happily get you through the entire day on normal usage patterns of messaging, web surfing, and consuming media. If you are using it more intensively with games or GPS tracking, you will probably need to top up daily. It does, however, charge very rapidly because the phone has wired charging speeds of up to 90W, which can be replenished in less than 50 minutes (80% in 30). It charges wirelessly at up to 50W but not with the new Qi2 standard. There is also reverse wireless charging of accessories. An adaptive screen refresh rate (1 Hz to 120 Hz) is employed to save power by reducing the screen’s refresh rate when it does not need to be high.

Operating on Android 15, Xiaomi 15 features Xiaomi HyperOS 2, which offers a feature-rich and smooth user experience. The latest and most sophisticated AI apps used in photography editing, voice translation, and other smart features are integrated into the device, complementing daily usage. Xiaomi promises four years of Android updates and six years of security updates, which ensure long-term reliability.

Despite multiple redeeming qualities, Xiaomi 15 has downsides as well. The operating program is infested with bloat apps and advertising, which are not appropriate in a telephone costing $1,000. The telephoto zoom, while improved, does not contain as much optical zoom as the previous generation, and this will disappoint some people. Wireless charging, while fast, is not compliant with the latest standard of Qi2. Lastly, while large, the battery could still need to be recharged during long gaming periods, which can be annoying to hardcore players.
